Grandma's Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake With Chocolate Icing

Grandma's Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake With Chocolate Icing

When I was growing up as a small child, I always looked transmit to the homemade chocolate cakes that my grandmother would make for my Birthday. In our family, my grandmother was a dedicated baker and would bake something for us every day. Thankfully, she passed on her love for baking to me.

This method is done the old-fashioned way and is topped off with some tasty chocolate icing. Once your cake is cooled, you will want to store it in a cake container. If it's hot and humid outside, I recommend storing it in the refrigerator.

Banana Cake

Cake Ingredients:

1/2 pound butter, softened
5 eggs
2 cups granulated sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 cup evaporated canned milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar. Slowly add in the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, integrate the all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt. Slowly add 1/2 of the flour compound to the wet ingredients and beat for 1 minute. Pour in the 1/2 cup of milk and beat again, followed by the remaining flour mixture. Stir in the vanilla excerpt and beat again. Finally, stir in the 1/4 cup of evaporated milk and beat until all ingredients are well combined.

Note: If your batter seems beyond doubt stiff, add a tiny supplementary milk.

Lightly spray a 9 x 13" baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Pour the batter into the pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 to 45 minutes or until cake is done in the center. Cool cake on a wire rack.

Chocolate Icing Ingredients:

2 1/2 squares baking chocolate
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a large saucepan, melt the baking chocolate over low heat. Stir in the granulated sugar and evaporated milk. Bring to a boil and boil for 2 to 3 minutes or until a soft ball forms when dropped into cold water. Remove pan from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract. Beat icing by hand until it is thick sufficient to spread on your cooled cake.

German Chocolate Cake method

German Chocolate Cake method

Germans are sublime for their cake recipes. They have any that I love and have made on any occasions. I have came up with a actually good recipe, and I hope that you enjoy it.

Ingredients for the Cake Mix:

Chocolate Cake Recipe

1/2 Cup of water

4 Ounces of semi sweet chocolate

1 Cup butter

2 Cups sugar

4 Egg yolks

1 Teaspoon of vanilla bean paste

2 1/2 Cups flour

1 Teaspoon of baking soda

1/2 Teaspoon of salt

1 Cup buttermilk

4 Egg whites Stiff peaks

Bring the water to a simmer, You will then add your chocolate and water over a duplicate boiler and melt the chocolate until it is smooth. You will remove from the duplicate boiler and cool down to room temperature. You will then start to mix your sugar, vanilla bean paste, and and butter until creamy, and then add in egg yolks one at a time until incorporated. You will need to make sure the chocolate compound is cooling down because you are going to start getting the rest of your ingredients ready to put them all together very soon.

We are ready to get the dry ingredients ready now. First thing you will need to do is get your dry ingredients ready at this point. You will need to sift the flour, soda, and salt. You will then add in buttermilk and give it a stir. Now you will add the buttermilk flour compound to the chocolate liquid and stir them just until they are incorporated.

I would preheat the oven to 350F degrees, so you can pour the batter and go directly into the oven. This is the last step of the chocolate cake batter. This is what is going to make the cake light and fluffy. You will need to whisk the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. You will add about a third of the stiff peaked egg whites in to the batter and fold gently into the chocolate mix, repeat two more times until all of the egg whites are folded in. Do not mix, but fold them into the batter. You will lose the lift the egg whites will produce.

Grease and flour two or three 9" circular pans, pour in the batter, and put into the oven. Bake at 350F for 30 to 40 minutes, remove and cool. When the toothpick comes out clean the cake is ready.

Ingredients for the coconut and pecan frosting:

1 Cup evaporated milk

1 Cup sugar

3 Beaten egg yolks

1/2 Cup of butter

1 Teaspoon of vanilla bean paste

1 Tablespoon of Meyers Dark Rum

1 Can of flaked coconut

1 Cup chopped pecans

In a bowl you will mix the milk, rum, sugar, yolks and butter. You will then heat in a pan stirring enduringly until it thickens, 10 minutes or so. Then pour into the vanilla bean paste, coconut and pecans, and let cool.

For the Chocolate Icing:

8 Ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped

2 Tablespoons light corn syrup

1 1/2 Ounces of unsalted butter

1 Cup heavy cream

1 Bag and a metal tip for the ring of frosting nearby the cake

You will add the chopped chocolate in a bowl with the corn syrup and butter. You will heat the cream to get it hot sufficient to melt the chocolate. You could also do this over a duplicate boiler if you like to make more of a ganache. You will then remove from heat and gently pour over the chocolate. You will give it a quick stir, and then let stand until all of the chocolate has melted stirring occasionally. You will let this sit until you are ready for this at room temperature. If you like you can add your tip to the bag and add about a third of your icing, so you are ready to go. You will leave the rest of the icing for the sides of the cake.

Putting the cake together. Take the cake layers and assemble by adding a layer of the coconut frosting in between the layers. And the second, and then third and repeat the frosting in-between the layers. Once the last layer is on top add the coconut frosting layer on jut the top of the cake. You will then start to frost the sides of the cake with the chocolate icing. You will need a knife and a glass of water to dip into to smooth down the sides. Once that is complete you will add decorations on the top of the cake. You can do a attractive ring or anything you wish. Then serve

How To Adapt a Cake recipe for an Egg Allergy

How To Adapt a Cake recipe for an Egg Allergy

Many ordinary cake recipes can be adapted to an Egg Free or even a Vegan Diet. * 1/2 Tablespoon of Bicarbonate of Soda

* 1/4 Teaspoon of baking powder

* 1 Tablespoon of cornflour, or

* 2 Tablespoons of water

One of the benefits of Egg Free Baking is the lower cholesterol level of the baked goods produced without eggs.

Egg Free Cakes are just as easy, if not easier to get ready than cakes containing Eggs. If your baking does not turn out, take a look at the following results and remedies to assist you for the next time:

If your cake has sunk in the middle, try reducing the amount of liquid used in the recipe. If your cake looks and feels undercooked, you may have taken it out of the oven too soon, had the temperature too low or used too small baking powder. A heavy cake may require more baking powder, and may include too much butter or oil, whereas a dry cake may require more butter, oil or baking powder and could have been in the oven too long.

The crumbly cake typically contains too much sugar and not enough binding ingredients such as oil or cornflour. When the top of your cake cracks it indicates that the oven temperature is too hot, the cake tin is too small, or there is not enough liquid in the mixture.

6 Easy Childrens Cakes For Birthday Parties

6 Easy Childrens Cakes For Birthday Parties

If you're looking for ideas for children's cakes for your child's next birthday, I've got six easy ones for you to consider. They all can be made with microscopic effort, just a splash of creativity, and lots of icing.

These are some of the ideas I got from You can see pictures for these six there.

Cake Ideas

1. Clown Cake - What you need to do first is bake a quarterly sheet cake. Once you let it cool, you want to draw the figure of the clown on the top of the cake. An easy way to do this is to use rice paper. While the cake is cooking, trace the clown picture you want onto the rice paper with a Crayola crayon. When the cake cools, place the rice paper on top and trace the figure with icing. The icing will plainly dissolve the rice paper. Next you want to cut along the figure and decorate with lots of colorful icing.

2. Castle Cake - For your microscopic princess this will be a huge hit. Bake a quarterly sheet cake. Once it cools, cut it in half. One half will be your base. Take the other half and cut it into thirds. Take two of these thirds and round off the corners of one side. Place these on either side of the base. Use your final third as a second level of the castle. You can also bake one or two more cakes, 8 x 8 and use them for higher levels. Place inverted ice cream cones the rounded edge pieces. Icing with white and blue.

3. Fairy Cake - supervene the same instructions for the clown cake for drawing on the cake. Find a cute fairy to trace. Use lots of pink and purple for your icing. There's really no limit to the childrens cakes you can make using this tracing technique.

4. Ladybug Cake - For this one you'll need to bake two cakes. A two-layer 10-inch and a two-layer 6-inch. Use icing in the middle of the layers. Use a knife to level out the roundness of the body and head. You'll need the star tip #18 for the fill work and round tip #5 for the outlining.

5. Superman symbol Cake - This one is "super" easy and one your microscopic boy will love. Like the clown cake, bake a sheet cake and trace a Superman symbol on the face. Cut it out and use red and yellow icing to decorate. Only instead of putting an "S" on the emblem, use the first letter of your child's name. It's so cute.

6. Teddy Bear Cake - You'll have a lot of fun with this one and it's great for either boys or girls. Use a sheet cake and bake draw a teddy bear on the face. Cut it out and use brown icing to decorate. Use black icing for the stitching and use pink icing for a bow under the chin. For a microscopic boy, use blue icing.

There you go. Six children's cakes that you really make for your child's next birthday party. I promise, you'll have a blast. And for more great children's birthday cake ideas, check out my blog.

The making ready of the white cake frosting is as a matter of fact easy. You need to put the flour and the milk into a saucepan. Then you need to make the substance a minuscule bit more homogenous by stirring with spoon. Place the saucepan on the hotplate and cook over low heat. So make sure your child's birthday de facto rocks with some of these Camp Rock birthday cake ideas.

Your first choice is to buy a ready made, ready decorated cake. I have seen a few dissimilar ones in my local supermarket, featuring whether the Camp Rock cast or the Camp Rock logo. You could also go to a local bakery or cake specialist and have one made for you. This could be one of their designs or even a found you choose.

Cake Ideas

Also if you go to your local supermarket or bakery most of them do a aid where they will print a photo or a picture you have on top on a plain cake. Do keep in mind, however, that due to copyright laws most will not print out any pictures you have cut out of magazines etc. But you can take a photo of your child singing in full singing gear or get the kids to found their own logo or picture.

If you want to make a Camp Rock birthday cake you have two options. choice one is to make the whole cake from scratch yourself or choice two is to buy a plain toady and decorate in rockin' Camp Rock style.

Start out with the actual sponge. You need to rule what shape toady you are going to have. You can whether bake the dissimilar shaped sponges in shaped cake tins or purchase ready made toady and cut into the shapes you require. Cake shapes you could have are:

Round - Any size. Rectangle - Small or large. Square - Any size. Star - Cut out of a large square. Guitar - Made from three rectangle shaped sponges. One for the arm of the guitar then two together and cut into the shape of the base of the guitar. Musical Note - Made from three rectangle shapes forming a bottomless quadrate for the arms of the note then two round sponges for each note. Microphone - You will need a rectangle and round toady to form this shape. Tent Cake - Made with three quadrate shaped sponges one for the base then two standing on each end leaning against each other to form a tent. Just cut a triangular piece to use for the back of the tent. Camp Rock Logo - Using a large picture of the Camp Rock logo cut the toady into the same shape.

Once you have your basic shape it's time to decorate. Here are some Camp Rock birthday cake ideas for decorating:

Decorate with Camp Rock cake toppers. Create a camp scene on a plain cake (tent, camp fire etc.). Draw on the Camp Rock logo with coloured icing and icing pens. Decorate a guitar or microphone with edible icing and sweets to give a realistic look e.g. Strawberry laces for guitar strings. Put a photo of the birthday girl in the centre of a star shaped cake. Write, with icing pens, 'We Rock' or 'We're Going To Camp Rock'.

Cake Ideas From Our "Most Popular" List

Cake Ideas From Our "Most Popular" List

Whether it is a guitar for a teen musician's birthday, a ship for a going away party or a Scooby Doo cake for a child's birthday; the character or novelty cake continues to be a favorite, especially the kind that is so for real made with a mold cake pan. Character and novelty pans are sold at large craft shop and baking provide stores. You can also find them online from well- known suppliers.

We're seeing more and more castle cakes at parties now too, from Cinderella's castle to exciting sculptures for Renaissance events.

Cake Ideas

The more unusual birthday party cakes are getting lots of attentiveness lately, such as the volcano cake. It's not your typical chocolate lava cake that's for sure! This one steams and spews lava, thanks to dry ice and one of the fun cake recipes from "Cake Decorating Made Easy!" Here's what one reader wrote about our Video Books:

"I sat glued to the computer watching the videos and reading as soon as I got it. It is wonderful!!! I have lots of study manuals that I have tried to ensue in the past. Watching your videos once has made all the distinction to my cake decorating skills. I especially love the flower development and will be development cakes overflowing with flowers Asap (its spring here in Australia so exquisite timing!!!).

Thank you again for a wonderful, informative, and affordable product"

Another unique and fun cake idea is the beach pail cake. A distinction of the flowerpot cake (a fun one for a gardener or kids by the way), the beach pail cake is a big hit with toddlers who enjoy for real digging into their cakes.

A plastic beach pail is filled with pudding cake and topped with a thin layer of cookie crumb sand. Vanilla sandwich cookies are a good selection for this because the filling adds some moisture to the crumbs. And when the cake's "all gone" your toddler has a new toy!

Speaking of toys, doll cakes continue to please. Barbie type dolls featuring a real doll with a cake and icing dress are popular not only with young school age girls, but grown up girls as well. Creating this type of cake appeals to the fashion designer in us!

And last but not least, buttercream and royal icing roses continue to be a top request for cakes from a young girl's birthday to a grandmother's seclusion party.

Wedding Cake Ideas

The word from wedding cake designers is "Less is more." Today's bride prefers a far less ornate design. Whether classic or whimsical, understated is often preferred. Fondant continues to be a popular cake surface because its satiny flat quit lends itself well to the wedding cake ideas that brides are bringing to their cake decorators.

Many of the more popular cake ideas are arrival from an Asian influence, such as white decorations on white icing, accented lightly with red.

Popular wedding cake ideas are also influenced by the current wave of colors that are replacing the white fondant and buttercream.

Ice blue, light blush, rum pink, and lavender are providing the backgrounds for quietly elegant or whimsical decorations such as silver polka dots, sugar crystallized fruits and daisies. Roses, orchids and lilies continue to be part of today's wedding cake ideas.

Of course, decorating alone doesn't make a great cake. Taste and texture count too!

And here's one more cake idea: For an easy to make castle cake, use empty paper towel tubes and ice cream cones (the sugar cone variety) for the turrets. Or just the cones alone can be used.

Cover them first with icing and glue with royal icing to a graduated quadrilateral or round, stacked cake (use two or more graduated quadrilateral pans to generate the cake). Fly colorful flags off the top of the turrets. These can be made with building paper, cut in triangular shapes and attached with icing or glue to toothpicks.

If you have sufficient ice cone turrets to go around, you could even fill the cones with icing - that is if you do this just before serving!
